Spore germination of Bacillus megaterium QM B1551 mutants.
نویسنده
چکیده
Auxotrophic or antibiotic-resistant mutants of Bacillus megaterium QM B1551 are capable of initiation of germination similar to the parental (QM B1551) prototrophic strain.

Spore germination mediated by Bacillus megaterium QM B1551 SleL and YpeB.
Previous work demonstrated that Bacillus megaterium QM B1551 spores that are null for the sleB and cwlJ genes, which encode cortex-lytic enzymes (CLEs), either of which is required for efficient cortex hydrolysis in Bacillus spores, could germinate efficiently when complemented with a plasmid-borne copy of ypeB plus the nonlytic portion of sleB encoding the N-terminal domain of SleB (sleB(N)). ...

Spores of Bacillus megaterium QM B1551 germinate rapidly when exposed to a number of single-trigger germinant compounds, including glucose, proline, leucine, and certain inorganic salts. However, spores of strain PV361, a plasmidless QM B1551 derivative that lacks the GerU germinant receptor (GR) responsible for mediating germination in response to single-trigger compounds, can germinate effici...
متن کاملIdentification of a receptor subunit and putative ligand-binding residues involved in the Bacillus megaterium QM B1551 spore germination response to glucose.
The molecular basis for the recognition of glucose as a germinant molecule by spores of Bacillus megaterium QM B1551 has been examined. A chromosome-located locus (BMQ_1820, renamed gerWB) is shown to encode a receptor B-protein subunit that interacts with the GerUA and GerUC proteins to form a receptor that is cognate for both glucose and leucine. GerWB represents the third receptor B protein ...
متن کاملGermination of Bacillus megaterium spores after various extraction procedures.
The initiation of germination of Bacillus megaterium QM B1551 spores, grown in supplemented nutrient broth, has been studied. The initiation properties depend on buffer concentrations and the particular batch of spores. Initiation in l-alanine, KBr, calcium dipicolinate, or in buffer alone increases as a function of the spore age; whereas initiation in glucose, l-leucine, or l-proline remains r...
متن کاملActivation energy for glucose-induced germination of Bacillus megaterium spores.
The maximum germination rate of Bacillus megaterium QM B1551 spores in glucose increased, and the lag before its attainment decreased, with increasing germination temperature. The activation energy for germination (mu = approximately 20 kcal/mole), based on rate or on lag, was consistent with an enzymatic mechanism.
